Hazel studied at University of Central Lancashire, gaining a counselling graduate diploma in Professional Counselling Studies. She then went on to train as relational counsellor in-house with Marriage Care, gaining a certificate in Relational counselling. Since then, she has completed an advanced externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. Hazel was born and raised in Southern Africa, but now lives in the United Kingdom. Her background gives her a unique insight, enabling her to relate to cultural issues from both African and Western society. She works using brief or solution-focused therapy, helping clients find a resolution to their issues quicker than normal therapy. Just as the model suggests, she focuses mainly on negative emotions such anger, embarrassment, disgust, guilt, sadness or shame to help the client to come to a better place of feeling grateful, happy and hopeful. Her belief is that emotions are nature’s compass, helping us get to where we want to be. Hazel counsels couples and individuals with various issues, including anxiety, bullying, depression, domestic abuse and relationship problems, work stress related problems and trauma.
