James is a person-centred counsellor/psychotherapist who has a post graduate Diploma in Counselling and an MA in Counselling & Psychotherapy. He has also undertaken specialist training to work with young people, families, abuse, and people experiencing depression and extreme stress/anxiety. Before becoming a therapist he worked in social housing and social work, supporting children and families for over twenty years. James felt that changing his profession to counselling was a natural progression of his career, as he wanted to give a more personal approach to help others. James’s process is essentially person-centred, which means that he believes that with his help you are able to tap into your own strengths and abilities to make changes and cope with setbacks in life. He is also trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and he will sometimes use this approach if he feels that this may be more helpful for you. He has extensive experience in dealing with anxiety disorders, extremes of emotions and behaviours, relationships issues and trauma, and depression. In addition to individual therapy, James has eight years’ experience of delivering family therapy.
